No, this is a bootleg live performance. It's not been officially released. However, some of the movements were played as encores, which have been officially released. Sokolov's concerts from the past 10+ years have, however, all been officially recored. DG is releasing the more recent ones. His old record label, Op.111, might have the rights to the older ones - or maybe they were acquired by DG too? The thing is, Sokolov is just not interested in reviewing the recordings for release. There will be a lot of material that will come out when he passes on, I'm sure.

That means Sokolov is today, year 2024, about 74 years old. What a Marvel of musicality, pianism, virtuosity and total artistry he expounded, even at such a young age of 17 ! The recording appears to have occurred in 1967, and at 17 years old, he was born in 1950, 8 years later than my birth year, 1942 !! I also studied classical piano repertoire at a conservator in my youth, after graduating from a catholic high school. SO I am quite familiar with the classical piano repertoire, as well as all those great Apex piano performers who lived during my youth years . BUT I only recently discovered and heard Sokolov on YTube, and am amazed I had not heard of him earlier even with the 33 rpm records and the later music CDs that were reproducing the music of older pianists like Rubinstein, Solomon, Horowitz, Cortot, Hoffman, Lhevine, Graffman, Janis, Schnabel, Samson Francois, Gilels, Istomin, Serkin, Howrzowski, Goode, Arrau, Gulda, Freire, Pollini, etc,. I am so glad for this channel and others that now carry his music within easy reach h of millions !! You do a great service for Music and Humanity. PRAISE THE LORD !!

There's no official biography - he never had a website or anything like that, as he'd more or less retired from performing by the time the internet was taking off. But I can tell you anything you're interested in (he's my dad). He was born in 1947 in Horden (little mining village in county Durham) and grew up there. Learned folk/blues guitar as a teenager and was active in the folk music scene in the north. He played with Ed Pickford and Mick Elliott in a group called The Northern Front. In the 1970s he moved to Birmingham, where he was also very active in the folk scene. He worked as a school teacher for all his life.

@@youngpossum Hi, my name is Keith Close, also born in Horden in 1947, was in the same class as your dad in the 'Tin School' both went to Wellfield, he in the A stream, me in the B. Saw him a couple of times after I left Wellfield after 'O' levels and went to work for the NCB. Although I ended up teaching in primary schools.He had a group that did a gig or two at Horden Rugby Club. Northern Front were mentioned by Bob Fox at a gig last week in Bromsgrove, we live in Malvern. Watched the UA-cam video and thought that looks him and I was right. How long ago since he died? Good to hear from you.

I have a couple of reel-to-reel tapes of some NF material (I think done for Hartlepool radio stations?), which I keep meaning to get digitized and put online + send to Ed. No way for me to play it otherwise. I also have the studio master tape from Looks A Lot Like Me, so will try to get a good copy of that made as well -- this version is taken from a vinyl pressing. Nick died in May 2018, so a bit over four years now. If he knew people were still listening to his music I'm sure he'd be very glad.
